SSC CGL 2025 Selection Process

The selection process for the SSC CGL 2025 examination is a multi-stage process designed to test a candidate’s aptitude and knowledge thoroughly. It consists of two computer-based tiers.

Tier-I Examination

This is a preliminary, objective-type examination that is qualifying in nature. Marks scored will be used to shortlist candidates for the Tier-II examination.

  • Mode: Computer Based Examination (CBE)
  • Question Type: Objective Type, Multiple Choice Questions
  • Negative Marking: There will be a penalty of 0.50 marks for each incorrect answer.

Tier-II Examination

Candidates who clear the Tier-I cut-off will be eligible to appear for the Tier-II examination. Tier-II consists of three papers, but most candidates will only need to appear for Paper-I.

  • Paper-I: Compulsory for all posts.
  • Paper-II (Statistics): Only for candidates who apply for Junior Statistical Officer (JSO) and Statistical Investigator Grade-II posts.
  • Negative Marking: There is a penalty of 1 mark for each wrong answer in Section-I, II, and III of Paper-I, and 0.50 marks for each wrong answer in Paper-II.

Important Points for Tier-II:

  • It is mandatory to qualify in all sections of Paper-I separately.
  • The Computer Knowledge Test (Section-III) and DEST (Section-IV) are mandatory but qualifying in nature. However, higher qualifying standards will be set for posts that specifically require computer proficiency or a higher typing speed.

Indicative Syllabus for SSC CGL 2025

A thorough understanding of the syllabus is the first step toward effective preparation.

Tier-I Syllabus:

  • General Intelligence & Reasoning: Includes verbal and non-verbal reasoning topics like analogies, series, problem-solving, coding-decoding, spatial orientation, and critical thinking.
  • General Awareness: A broad section covering current events, India and its neighboring countries, history, culture, geography, economic scene, general policy, and scientific research.
  • Quantitative Aptitude: Tests number sense and computation skills. Topics include whole numbers, decimals, fractions, percentages, ratio, proportion, averages, interest, profit & loss, algebra, geometry, mensuration, trigonometry, and data interpretation (bar diagrams, pie charts).
  • English Comprehension: Focuses on vocabulary, grammar, sentence structure, synonyms, antonyms, and reading comprehension.
Tier-II Syllabus:
  • Mathematical Abilities: Expands on the Tier-I syllabus with a deeper focus on number systems, arithmetic, algebra, geometry, mensuration, trigonometry, and statistics & probability.
  • Reasoning & General Intelligence: Similar to Tier-I but with a higher difficulty level, including topics like critical thinking, problem-solving, and emotional/social intelligence.
  • English Language & Comprehension: Advanced topics including active/passive voice, direct/indirect narration, shuffling of sentences, cloze passages, and detailed comprehension passages from reports or editorials.
  • General Awareness: Similar scope as Tier-I.
  • Computer Knowledge: Covers computer basics (CPU, I/O devices, memory), software (MS Office), working with the internet and e-mails, and basics of networking and cybersecurity.
  • Statistics (Paper-II): Advanced topics for JSO/Stat. Investigator posts, including data collection, classification, central tendency, dispersion, correlation, regression, probability theory, sampling theory, and statistical inference.
Document Verification

After the declaration of the final result, the respective User Departments/Organizations will conduct Document Verification (DV). Candidates will be required to produce original documents to substantiate their claims regarding age, education, and category.

How to Apply for SSC CGL Recruitment 2025

The application process is entirely online. Candidates must follow these steps carefully:

  1. One-Time Registration (OTR):
    • Visit the new official SSC website.
    • Click on the “Login or Register” button. New users must click on “Register Now”.
    • Fill in basic details like Aadhaar number, name, parent’s names, date of birth, and matriculation details.
    • Create a password and provide additional details like category and address.
    • Verify your mobile number and email ID via OTP to complete the registration. Note down the Registration Number and Password. Candidates who have registered on the old website (ssc.nic.in) must perform a fresh OTR on the new website.
  2. Filling the Application Form:
    • Log in to your account using the new Registration Number and password.
    • Under the ‘Latest Notifications’ tab, find the link for ‘Combined Graduate Level Examination, 2025’ and click ‘Apply’.
    • Your details from the OTR form will be auto-filled.
    • Provide your preference for examination centers. You can choose any three centers across the country.
    • Indicate if you are applying for the posts of JSO or Statistical Investigator and confirm if you possess the required educational qualifications.
  3. Uploading Live Photograph and Signature:
    • The application module requires you to capture a live photograph using a webcam or the mySSC mobile app.
    • Ensure good lighting, a plain background, and a clear frontal view without caps or spectacles.
    • Upload a scanned copy of your signature in JPEG format (10 to 20 KB).
  4. Fee Payment:
    • Proceed to pay the application fee if you are not in an exempted category.
    • Payment must be made online via BHIM UPI, Net Banking, or Debit/Credit Cards.
  5. Final Submission:
    • Review your application carefully using the ‘Preview’ option.
    • Agree to the declaration and submit the form.
    • Take a printout of the final application form for your records.
